BANGALORE: The magic of yoga and spiritual guru, Sri Sri Ravishankar, have made
inroads into the Naxal heartland. Armed with his 'Sudarshan Chakra' yoga
techniques and 'Art of Living' (AOL) therapy sessions, Ravishankar has not
only convinced the hardcore naxals into giving up the gun, but formed a party
to air their grievances.
AOL teacher and general secretary of the Jharkhand Judicial Officers
Association, Brijesh Balgur Singh, said that AOL courses, especially Sudarshan
Chakra Kriya, had managed to bring about a change in the lives of these
hardened Maoists.

BACK TO BASIC [by vikram bhaiya]

I'm teaching an Art of Living Part 1 course in Mumbai this week, and two more
next week. Formerly called the Basic course, it holds a special place in my
heart.
AOL now offers a huge assortment of programs -- courses for children, college
students, corporates, prisoners, villagers, slumdwellers -- and each module has
been very successful in its own right. Yet the bedrock of Guruji's knowledge is
the Part 1 course; for many it has been the healing balm that washed away years
of pain or trauma, for others it has healed apparently incurable diseases, and
for many more it has been the ideal gateway to a more spiritual, effective and
harmonious way of life.

For the past fourteen years, I have had the privilege of teaching this program
to people from all walks of life in over 30 countries, covering most racial,
religious, ethnic, economic and social demographics. It never ceases to amaze
me how much each of them finds in common, and how the course works across the
board. I have even taught healers, swamis, yoga teachers, musicians and artists
-- deeply spiritual, highly evolved and refined beings -- each of whom has
marveled at how Guruji (Sri Sri Ravi Shankar) has cognized the deepest truths
into a simple, six-day experiential workshop.

The Sudarshan Kriya itself is like a beautiful poem; its rhythms seem familiar
yet esoteric, the experience sometimes excruciating but always enlightening, a
feeling of being totally spent yet craving more. Its like listening to a
wondrous dhrupad recital -- the tones sometimes pinning you with their raw
physicality, sometimes lulling you into meditation, sounding faintly familiar
yet just out of reach, and always that sense of a higher power, a presence that
seems to hover protectively close by.

And ah, how powerful our own breath is! It energises our body, calms our mind,
soothes our emotions, and offers insights into our true nature. Is it too
subtle? Do we sound too simplistic when we teach it? Perhaps. But one's own
experience always bears testimony to the efficacy of this premise.

Most humbling is the trust that people place in you as a teacher, going through
every process and technique with unflagging enthusiasm, apparently sure that
this is going to work. And most fulfilling is the glow, the peace on every face
on the last day; they know that its impossible to describe what they have
experienced, or what has touched their lives.

The course is also an introduction to meditation ("the best gift you can give
yourself") and to the experience of encountering a living, enlightened being, a
true Master. That itself is worth the price of admission.
Actually, no, it's priceless!

Know Breath, Know Life

"When you cannot handle the mind directly, it can be handled through breath.
The mind is like a kite and breath, the string." - Sri Sri. It always is mind
over matter. The quality of our life is determined by the state of our mind. If
the mind is at ease, we are able to perform all our duties whether household,
professional or social with ease too. The question is how do we keep the mind
happy, when it keeps flitting between regrets about the past and worries about
the future, .
There is a built-in mechanism to calm the mind in each person, but seldom one
is taught how to use it. And this is what you will learn from the Art of Living
Part I program.
The centerpiece of this program is an innovative breathing technique called the
Sudarshan Kriya. Breath has a great lesson for us. For every rhythm in the
mind, there is a corresponding rhythm in the breath. Just as emotions affect
the patterns of breathing, the mental, and behavioural patterns can be changed
by altering the rhythm of our breath. A remarkable feature of the course is
that participants are able to rediscover the present moment, not as a concept
but as a direct experience.

Program details:

The Part I program is an 18-20 hour workshop spread over 5-6 days
Open to everyone above 20 years
Along with the Sudarshan Kriya, the course includes modules on skills for
dealing effectively with challenging emotions, relationships, and situations.
Includes basic yoga exercises.
Techniques that are easily practiced.

How will I benefit?
Practices that heal and harmonize the body, mind, and spirit
Skills for handling negative emotions, and situations
Practical wisdom for improving work, and relationships
Insight into one's own mind, and emotions
Stretching and yoga

Subject: Blessing others deepens your connection

Jai Gurudev,

Last Sunday (27th Sept 2009), after finishing a round of blessings at khanna
market slum area in Delhi alongwith Rahul Patel ji a strong volunteer, I almost
reached back home feeling bit dissatisfied, that some more people should get
this. Suddenly Bawa Singh ji called requesting me to come for giving blessings
at regular AIIMS evening satsang. Accepting the opportunity, I turned all the
way back. Not only did I get to sing HIS glory (supporting lead singer, Manish
Sharma), importantly received following SMS next day:

"I was down mentally and physically and after blessings at satsang yesterday
got healed. May guru bless you with long life and greater strength always
jgd...." Pradeep Thukral....

On Dusserha day (28th Monday Sept 09), Rahulji suggested we visit Sai Temple
instead and bless physically handicapped and beggars around the premise. While
relief on their face just by getting an opportunity to bow down and be blessed
was so obvious, my sense of wonder in HIS powers manifesting through us has
reached infinity raised to the power infinity..... !

"The YLTP showed me how to have love in my heart for another person. I would
like to say sincerely that I didn't know how to receive a person in my heart,
but you have taught me how." - Castylle, age 23, Cap Haitien.

"Before the YLTP, it wasn't me that was living but a shadow of myself. I was
always a sad person, and I couldn't understand what I was so afraid of, why I
was so timid. I can now say that fear has been replaced by confidence and trust
in myself. I have finally found examples to live up to. I am changed thanks to
IAHV and my teachers. " - Eclude, age 20, Cap Haitien.

Haiti is filled with youth longing for Guruji, for kriya, for this knowledge.
Our young students' challenging lives have created incredible depth, maturity
and wisdom in them. Deep, heart-felt devotion is a daily part of life in Haiti,
so our Haitian YLTPs are filled with knowledge about faith, bhakthi, and living
with the awareness that "God is sleeping in every heart."

This summer, we taught 20 former Youth Leadership Training Program (YLTP)
graduates how develop their own green, sustainable businesses. We taught 70 new
students the YLTP in two new areas of Haiti, and taught them how to develop
sustainable agricultural programs and initiatives. About 80% of our students
would like to become Art of Living teachers. 65% say they would like to
dedicate their lives to volunteer service to Guruji.

Interested in joining our work in Haiti or finding out more? Let me know!

Subject: Rajima (Rajalakshmi Ratan) - a phenomenon

Dear friends -

Rajima (a little known figure in Austin up until a few months ago) blessed us
with her dear presence Aug 14-23.

Little did i know that we had signed up for...one of the most powerful
experiences in the history of Austin.

In the span of 4 weeks (esp after she arrived) we were able to pull of
Bhagvatam discourse, Bhagavad Gita discourse, Know Your Child, Why me? public
talk, Part 1, MahaSatsang & volunteers boat satsang.

People flocked to all events - Austin would never the be same again.

The most powerful experiences for me was the Bhagvatam discourse & Bhagavad
Gita discourse. Her command on the vedic texts as well as Bible & other
spiritual & literary texts is astounding giving a rich experience of the holy
tradition which is universal.
I feel this Gita + Bhagvatam combo would be so helpful to have it as part of
our teacher & volunteer training.

More than 1/2 the 55 odd people attending daily morning 6:30-8:30a discourses
on Bhagvatam had tears of devotion & so strong was His presence you had to be
there to witness.

The select group of volunteers had a bonus Bhagavad Gita discourse each morning
5:30a-6:30a and the knowledge really woke us up to rise above all mental
"games" to only giving 100% towards upholding Dharma each & every instance &
joyfully living & sharing His knowledge.
I believe we were able to pull off a 75 people Part 1 course only due to this.
The day Rajima arrived on 14th we were at 30 registrations, day when Part 1
began on 18th that morning we were at 49 & we had over 20 on the spot signups -
we were able to witness the unfolding of something so special. The Part 1
itself was so powerful - the approach - the pace & the love & the attentiveness
that she was able to keep everyone on their toes the whole time - a unique
Siddhi.

Wish every city can host her next time around.

Book your calendars with her now & Be prepared to be Surprised from another of
this Gurudev's treasure chest.

Above & beyond grateful to Rajima.

Love & Pranams to Gurudev & to you all!
Jai Guru Dev!
Arvind
