On October 10, 2010, members of the Art of Living NJ group participated in
the Mental Health Association of New Jersey's 3nd Annual "Walk for
Wellness". At this event one of our teachers, Ketan Bhagat mentioned to
another participant about our YES! programs being taught in public schools
in NJ! That participant happened to be a branch manager of the Investors
Savings Bank. She was very excited that a such wonderful program was being
provided for the youth and had mentioned that the bank runs a foundation
which provides grants for community service. Subsequently, an application
for the grant was made. Last week, we got confirmation that we are
recipients of a $2500 grant for teaching YES! in NJ schools.

You never know how the next person can help us, help our communit\y!!!

Jim Larsen, one of the senior teachers in the Art of Living Foundation. This
is our first ever Silence Course planned for Bloomington, Indiana. The

Subject: Government launches 'art of living' in colleges

Govt launches 'art of living' in colleges:

The State government has introduced 'Manavate' (humanity) programme for
college students in a bid to help them face new age challenges.

The 24-session programme spread over six days was launched on February 17 in
all government first degree colleges across the State in association with
World Alliance For Youth Empowerment (WAYE) under the aegis of The Art of
Living Foundation.

A circular to this effect was issued on February 11 by the Commissioner of
Collegiate Education. The Maharani Arts College and the Government First
Grade College at Varthur in Bangalore have successfully completed the
course.

In the first phase of the programme, the government will spend Rs 600 on
each of the 40,000 second year degree students. The total expenditure works
out to Rs 2.4 crore.
Other students will be covered under Manavate in a phased manner. The course
is not part of the curricula but it is mandatory for students to attend the
sessions.

The stated aim of 'Manavate' is to empower youth and inculcate in them
values such as truth, non-violence and integrity. A brief note on the
department's website says that the programme is to equip the youth to adapt
to changes in the contemporary world of information explosion, consumerism
and increased autonomy.

The department claims that the programme is in tune with the New Education
Policy and recommendations of the World Health Organisation.

"The New Education Policy of 1986 envisages the inclusion of value education
in the curriculum of higher education. Maintaining the health of the body,
mind and soul is emphasised even by the World Health Organisation," the note
stated.

12 topics

The course content includes 12 topics — self awareness, effective
communication skills, coping with emotions, coping with stress, disciplining
the mind, interpersonal relationship skills, empathy, time management,
leadership qualities, EMI - ethics, morality, integrity, health habits and
environment, and global citizenship.

WAYE was founded by two IITians — Khurshed Batliwala and Dinesh Ghodke.
Special Officer of the Collegiate Education Department, Dr Monica Ghosh,
told Deccan Herald that WAYE had conducted similar programmes in Gujarat,
Rajasthan and other states. "We are not collecting fee for this course from
students. Instead, the government will pay us Rs 600 a student," she said.

Many lecturers have opposed the programme because it takes away much of
their teaching time in a highly packed semester system. In many colleges,
students skip regular classes after completing the 4-hour session, they
said.

A lecturer remarked that the government, by hiring a private agency for the
"empowerment" programme, had only showed that its own education system was
inefficient to help the youth to face the challenges of modern times.

his father "What is God?", The father held his son's hand and took him out
of the house and showed the house and asked him "What was here before the
house was built?", The son replied "Space.", the father continued "now that
the house is built where is it built?" to which the son again replied saying
"Space." "and if the house is to be removed what will remain?" asked the
father, and the son replied "space!" Then He said, GOD IS SPACE!
With such simplicity does Upanishads explains the unfathomable Generator,
Operator and Destroyer - GOD! And when Guruji speaks on Upanishads it comes
to us as an experience. I got to experience it last year in Los Angeles
where Guruji spoke on 'KENA' Upanishad. Kena means What! Guruji explained
that 'Why' is misery but 'What' brings inquisitiveness and alertness! He led
us through some amazing powerful meditations in each sessions. I would not

The serene atmosphere in the idyllic rural environment of the Vasad ashram
at Gujarat made a perfect setting for the first ever Sri Sri Yoga part 2
course. There was the expectation that we would learn something new. Having
done the course, we came away having experienced something completely
different to all of us. One did not imagine that there were aspects to Yoga,
such as the Subtle Strengthening and Healing Contractions (SSaH C), that
Krishanji with his superb teaching methods, would guide us through. The
subtle manner in which knowledge of Yoga and "Self" were explained took us
to a very different level of realisation.

The seven day course had us completely mentally and physically involved
throughout the day. However one did not feel any fatigue, on the contrary we
came away feeling energised. The course took us deeper into a meditative
state which had a calming and rejuvenating effect.
Some of the features of Sri Sri Yoga part 2 Course

My Dearest AOL One World Family

Writing you one more time from my most precious and beautiful Egypt. Last
week as most of you might have seen in the news there is a major change in
the situation here.
I would like first to thank each and everyone sent us their support and love
allover the world. Thanks to the Satsang groups who have been remembering
Egypt in their meditations and prayers. To each one responded positively to
my request of meditating everyday at 4pm GMT, I like to tell you all that
all your efforts have been fruitful. Yesterday at 4.05pm GMT (6.05pm
Egyptian time) President Mubarak resigned. Together all the people who sent
love to Egypt from inside or outside it could save Egypt from a civil war
that all analysis showed that it was going to happen. We felt the change in
the energy when the whole world joined hands to send us their prayers to
uplift the vibes in Egypt and to transform hatred & fear to love and anger
to alertness. I am so grateful for all that happened, people have been
celebrating in the streets till now. Think it is Pooja time now :) One more
time the divine assures me that I am on the right track and that all my
Sankalpa will be manifested as long as I have the faith joined with the
energy of the Sanga, the "Sat Sanga J " thanks my wonderful family.
One more thing I like to share with you. Last Tuesday I went to Tahrir
square to support my fellow Egyptian Youth. I was joined by a singing group
that sing for the Pride in Egyptian Identity and Harmony in Diversity, AOL
Egypt have always been (morally) supporting this group since they carry the
same message of Guruji (deepen your roots and broaden your vision) also
since all the group have attended Health and Happiness workshop and most of
them have done Part I course. I went with the group to sing in Tahrir
Square, it was amazing feeling when I stood in front of about 2 million
people (as mentioned on TV) the energy was so powerful, we sang from the
heart and felt so much connection with the people. We exchanged love and joy
with this wonderful crowd. These people at the first days of the revolution
were going through the Shiva energy of destruction then the Bramha energy to
build a new corruption free system. Now we are working on keeping the Vishnu
energy to sustain this achievement to purify the system.
Yesterday morning I went to Tahrir before the president's resignation and
meditated there, confusion was in people's mind but but their faith wasn't
touched, they kept a joyful spirit by singing and joking so I was
optimistic. At 6pm I started my meditation but was interrupted by the cheers
in the streets, at this moment I knew how important our role was to protect
and purify our country. We still need to keep the prayers and meditation
till things are settled completely. Next week the AOL Egypt Satsang group
will meet to have our 1st Long Kriya after the events and to start
discussing the 1st AOL Seva project in Egypt. I am sure that you will
support us in the sankalpa for this project too. It is time for rebuilding
Egypt and make it stress free, violence free country (especially that the
revolution have always been peaceful from the side of the people despite the
brutal response from the other side).
I am so proud that when I decided to break the boundary of fear and insisted
on having the Sahaj course in JAN 10th despite all the fear that some people
had regarding the Pooja's conflict with religious beliefs, I was
contributing to the Egyptian revolution for a better and freer Egypt. Thanks
Guruji for giving us this knowledge.
Thanks all of you for your love and support for Egypt, I really felt the

During His visit, Guruji had mentioned that we should conduct medical camps
in Dharavi.
Accordingly, we have conducted 2 camps and the third is scheduled on 20th
Feb 11, 10.30am -12.30noon.

At the camps we found that many kids were malnourished due to wrong eating
habits, more due to lack of knowledge than due to lack of money.

We have started talks on Nutrition in the slums with emphasis on weaning of
infants, cheap yet nutritious foods, food hygiene, advantages of a
vegetarian diet, etc.
We need more Drs and nutritionists, etc to conduct these talks. The talks
would be about an hour, could be a couple of times a week and preferably
anytime between 1-4pm. We would train you on what needs to be spoken, but
the important thing is committment and also the need to 'walk the talk'! At
the end of the talk we generally distribute a food ingredient that is
nutritious, so as to kick start some healthy cooking in their homes.

The year of the Rabbit started with the Precious Gift of Sahaj Samadhi
(Effortless

Meditation) for Art Of Living Indonesia. We had 4 courses including one in
Bali from 18th

jan to 15th feb 2011. 108 participants learnt this simple yet a profound way
of

Meditation.

The Instructor Prajakti Deshmukh's pleasant and serene disposition suited
our simple

minded people here in Indonesia.

She also taught The Mahamritunjay Havan. About 75 members attended the havan

learning. Some of the benefits of chanting this mantra are the divine
vibrations are

generated that pulsates through every cell , every molecule of our body. It
ignites a fire

within that wards off all negativity.

It is a Mantra to conquer death and connects us to our own inner divinity.

Members had proftound experiences in both the events. Both simple yet very
deep.

Everyone felt that inner joy and deep serenity within as if out of their
body

consciousness, one with Nature and Self.
