Worship of a mother goddess has been a part of Indian tradition since its
earliest times. Lakshmi is one of the mother goddesses and is addressed as
"mata" (mother) instead of just "devi" (goddess).

All of us will agree on two things: We all have goals in life we want to
achieve and secondly we also know we have a tremendous potential. Yet also most
of us will agree that there is a huge difference between what our potential is
and where we are operating currently. Then suddenly some really challenging
situation arises in our life and we see a glimpse of our true abilities. But
this is really surprising that only during challenging situations we get to see
our true potential!!!! And again we slip back in our safety net in normal day

11,000 people to sing Thevaram in Sri Lanka

Rhyme and rhythm to unite hearts and minds

Sri Lanka, October 14: The land of the singing fish - Batticaloa in Sri Lanka
is all set to usher in 2011 by hosting a historical event on Jan 22 where more
than 11, 000 people from all walks of life will come together on one platform
to sing in unison some of the key verses from the richest Tamil devotional
poetry – The Thevaram.

Inspired by His Holiness Sri Sri Ravi Shankar`s mission of a One World Family
(Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam ) this historical event aims to unite hearts and minds
with rhyme and rhythm. The Thevaram ( In Tamil "Theva" means The Divine and
" aram" denotes a beautiful garland ) represents the first seven volumes of
the Tirumurai, the twelve-volume collection of Tamil Saivite devotional poetry.
All seven volumes are dedicated to the works of the three most prominent Tamil
poets known as Nayanars - Sambanthar and Appar lived around the 7th century AD,
while Sundarar lived in the 8th century AD. During the Pallava period these
three poets travelled extensively delivering discourses and songs characterised
by devotion to Lord Shiva.

In the tenth Century AD, during the reign of Rajaraja Chola I, a collection of
these songs was found abandoned in the Chidambaram temple, along with other
religious literary works, and collated by Nambiyandar Nambi. All the hymns in
the Thevaram (called pathikam in Tamil) are believed to be in sets of ten. "
The hymns are set to music denoted by Panns and are part of the canons of the
Tamil music" shares Swami Sadyojatha, Director, Art of Living International
Office.

Speaking on the relation between music and spirituality, Sri Sri says,
"Spirituality and music together can uplift people, get them out of
depression and help them start a new life with enthusiasm. For a stress-free
life, you have to embrace both these facets (spirituality and music)."

Several musicians, singers, poets, dancers, dignitaries and religious leaders
are also expected to attend the event. The event will also see participation
from every section of society and several countries.

In 2009, the Art of Living had earlier hosted Antarnaad a grand symphony of
2750 Indian classical vocalists in Pune, its historic sitar concert titled
Brahmnaad in New Delhi in Nov 2008, which brought together over 1000 sitar
exponents, in aid of the Bihar Relief and rehabilitation and in 2006 1200
Mohiniattam dancers performed together on one stage in Kerala.

This time, the festival of lights, rangoli, sweets and new clothes,
"Deepawali" is going to be brighter than ever as our beloved Guruji Sri Sri
Ravishankarji has chosen to bless Gujarat with his divine presence.

As on Deepawali an 'Annakut' of hundreds of delicacies, made by the
devotees with a lot of love is placed in front of god as an offering. The heart
longs to offer as many items as possible. With immense pleasure and joy we
announce that we AT AHMEDABAD have decided to get together and prepare 5000
different vegetarian food items to offer Guruji. This form of MahaPrasad is
known as Annambrahma.

The purpose of this exercise is not to create a record for record's sake, but
to promote vegetarianism, which is very much rooted in the principles of
non-violence, love for all living beings, and healthy eating. Volunteers from
all over India will come to prepare these dishes. The quantity of each dish
will be 2Kgs, which means 10000 kgs of food in total!

AS A GESTURE OF SEVA THE FOOD WILL THEN BE DISTRIBUTED AMONG UNDERPRIVILEGED
CHILDREN.

On the event of Annambrahma, we will surrender all our gratitude at the Lotus
feet of our Guru and express all the love we have in our heart. Guruji will
notice everything with utmost affection and care. The MahaPrasad will then have
His Blessings and we all will be able to share this precious Prasad with one
another.

We will present enormous variety of Vegetarian food items from many states of
India, as India is known for its openness to accept different cultures. We
propose to include many international cuisines like Chinese, Italian, American,
Thai etc. to offer to Guruji.

This herculean task can be made easy, if we all chip in the best that we can
offer.
So please come forward and donate your time, energy, and/or money.

Subject: Hundreds of religious leaders meet in India to stop HIV stigma and
discrimination

More than 400 religious leaders from around India recently travelled to the Art
of Living International Centre near the southern city of Bangalore to see how
people of faith could help those living with HIV.

Alongside hundreds of other participants – who represented UNICEF and its
partners, as well as people living with HIV – the leaders tackled the crisis
of stigma and discrimination of those affected by HIV in India.

While the country has a low HIV prevalence at just 0.34 per cent, because of
its large population India is home to the third-largest number individuals
infected in the world. The epidemic is most pronounced in urban areas and
decreases as education levels increase. HIV in India also disproportionately
affects women, who account for some 40 per cent of the country's total
infections.

In a joint declaration, the religious leaders affirmed that faith communities
have a crucial role to play in eradicating stigma and discrimination. They
pledged to "work tirelessly to remove all forms of stigma, discrimination,
isolation and margalization of people living with and affected by HIV."

Here, in their own words, are the views of a few of the 800 participants who
attended the two-day summit supported by UNICEF and its partners.

OCT 10TH- 12TH

Rudrabhishekam , 6 pm; Sept. 24-28, 7am): Through this puja of Rudra --
Shiva, the benevolent, the destroyer; one can aim for inner peace and
fulfilment.

OCT 13 (Wednesday)

Sri Maha Ganapathi Homa (On Oct 13, 8.30am): The rituals begin with an
offering to Ganesha, the Lord of Auspiciousness. Ganpati Homa is symbolic of
removing the obstacles before initiating any new venture.

Sri Navgraha Homa (On Oct 13,12.30 pm): Performed to propitiate Nine
Planets, which influence various spheres of life. It nullifies the negative
impact created by the Nav Grahas.

Vaastu Shanthi Homa (On Oct 13, 5pm): Vastu devta is the Lord for any
construction or home. Possibilities of any irregularity or dosha in
construction of home, factory etc is removed by this Homa. It is done to
subside the negative impact on the surroundings and the directions.

OCT 14 (Thursday)

Sri Maha Rudra Homa (On Oct 14, 7am): Rudra is the manifestation of Lord
Shiva.
One of the most ancient Homas from the text of Vedas for any prayer or
Homa.
Done for overall prospeerity, health, happiness, removal of obstructions.

Sri Maha Sudarshan Homa (On Oct 14, 5pm): Offered to Lord Narayana, it
signifies the removal of ignorance and illumination of a new life enriched
with knowledge. Sudarshan signifies the discus of Lord Narayana. It is
supposed to be the infallible weapon of Lord Narayana. It bestows clarity
and helps remove blocks in the mind. His Holiness Sri Sri Ravi Shankar has
blessed us with the Sudarshan Kriya.

OCT 15 (Friday)

Sri Nava Chandi Homa (On OCT 15, 7am;part of it begins on 13th & 14th): The
day of Ashtami, eighth day marks the pinnacle of all homas of Navaratri. The
Sri Nava Chandi Homa is performed to remove any obstacles or blocks in
growth - both internally and externally. By performing the Chandi Homa, the
sufferings that are caused by hostile elements are eradicated.

Durga is the manifestation of the Mother Divine - the primordial force that
creates, sustains and transforms this entire Universe. Of the triad of
Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswati, she is responsible for ridding the Universe of
negative elements. This Homa is performed to remove negative tendencies of
our self and the environment; and to increase strength, vigour, confidence
and truth and capacity to fight the evil forces. 700 verses in praise of the
goddess Durga are chanted. With the recitation of each verse, 108 offerings
are made in the sacrificial fire invoking the goddess to bestow her grace.
Chandi Homa is about recognizing the Divinity in the whole of creation.

OCT 16 (Saturday)

Saraswati Puja (On Sept. 27, 8am): One of the triad of Durga, Lakshmi and
Saraswati; Saraswati is the Goddess of knowledge, wisdom and peace and the
puja is done to imbibe these qualities in us. She is the Sadguna Swaroopa of
Adyashakti.

OCT 17(Sunday): VIDYARAMBHAM : 7:00 am - 8:30 am

As per Vedic traditions, ANNADAAN, POOJA & HOMA material, HOMA PRASADAM,
VASTRADAAN etc. plays a vital role in the form of offerings. As has always
been the tradition, we would like everybody to bear the sweet fruit/merits

three days ,I was travelling with immense speed through the planets ,sun
