Subject: Knowledge from Sri Sri... You should not ask proof of Divine's love
for you

You should not ask proof of Divine's love for you

February 18, 2012

(Below is the transcript of Satsang with Sri Sri Ravi Shankar)

Q: Guruji, sometimes you tell us, 'Karmanye Vadhikaraste' (action) and
sometimes you tell us 'Vishraam mein Ram hai' (rest). Should I be resting or
should I be performing action?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: Opposite values are complimentary. If you work, you
will be able to rest well; if you rest, you will be able to work well.
Without doing any work, if you just lie around, you will not even be able to
rest, and if you keep working without taking rest, you will not be able to
do your work either. So rest and activity both go hand in hand.

Q: Guruji, does one attain knowledge according to his karma?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: For attaining knowledge the desire for knowledge
should be awakened. Now if you ask me, is the desire for knowledge based on
one's karma? Yes! But knowledge eliminates karma.

Q: Guruji, what all should be done to maintain discipline in one's life?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: First thing is there should be a desire in the mind to
be disciplined, once that is there then consider it already done.
Discipline is there because of three reasons:
First is love. Although in love there is no need for discipline, but through
love, discipline can be achieved.
Second is fear. Suppose you say to someone, 'If you don't observe
discipline, you will fall sick,' then that person will become disciplined
out of fear of sickness.
Third is greed. Suppose you tell someone, 'If you don't observe discipline,
you will incur a loss,' that person will become disciplined out of greed.
So it is better to have discipline out of unconditional love; that is the
best.

Q: Guruji, it has often been seen that the very news of your arrival to a
particular city starts a fight. Why does seva instigate so much controversy?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: First a fight has to start, only then the Gita begins!
Yes, before my arrival in any city, a fight begins. I have also heard about
this before.
'Where will Guruji stay, in whose house will he stay?' And each one will
say, 'my place'. I will do like that and I will do like this. that is how it
all starts. What to do? I wonder!
There is no love without conflict and there is no conflict without love.
Somewhere or the other, the two must come together.

Q: Guruji, to retain the state acquired in meditation, what should I do?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: Just keep doing what you are doing now. You have to
continue doing it, again and again. 'Baar baar Raghuveer samai': Again and
again meditate.
So do meditation, sadhana and satsang and talk about it as well. Anything
that is in your speech, the mind and in action gets firmly established.
If you do your sadhana and the rest of the time you keep talking about petty
things, whatever juice you got after your sadhana will start fading away.
That is why in speech also, let that state find expression. Whenever you
talk, talk about knowledge, talk about love. Then you will see it gets more
firmly established in you. This is the importance of satsang.
In satsang we talk about the good things, we talk about knowledge,
meditation and miracles.
You talk about miracles happening in someone's life - isn't this what you
discuss? How many of you talk like this, only about miracles? What happens
when you talk only about miracles? Every day something new happens in your
life and so many new lessons are learnt.
So the mind becomes strong with these kinds of discussions.

Q: Guruji can I be in silence whenever I want? I feel it will benefit me a
lot.
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: Yes! Ask others and see; ask your family members!
But do not keep silence that will cause inconvenience or suffering to
others. Speak less and speak only as much as is needed.
You must speak 'Meeta Bhaashi' (friendly speech), 'Geeta Bhaashi'
(melodious/pleasant speech), 'Priya Bhaashi' (loving speech)' and 'Satya
Bhaashi (Truth)' - speak less, speak beneficial, speak pleasant and speak
the truth.

Q: Guruji, what should one ask for from a Satguru? Is there a need for
prayer when a Satguru is there?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: Whatever need arises, you ask, that is why it is
called 'need'. You can't sit and think what I should ask. Whatever is your
requirement, whatever is your need that will come as a question, as a
request, yes!

Q: Guruji, when consciousness is formless, should we have faith in the forms
also or just have faith in the formless?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: If you have reached the formless, it is fine! Forms
are just part of the formless.
You can't relate to the formless, so you relate to the forms when your eyes
are open. But when you close your eyes and go deep in meditation, then only
you can relate to the formless.
That is how you begin, but later on you will find whether eyes are open or
closed, you are with the formless.

Q: Guruji, when I focus on my work or sadhna, my relationships suffer. I
want to focus on my sadhna, yet want people around me to be happy. How do I
achieve this?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: Skillfully! You have to do both. It will come
spontaneously.

Q: Guruji, sometimes I don't have time to do seva. Is donation also
considered as seva?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: Yes! That is also seva.
See, whatever is possible for you, that is what is seva.
Suppose, you cannot lift a stone, you don't need to do it. You shouldn't do
what you cannot do. If someone else can do it, you can make them lift the
stone that is also part of seva. In the same way, if you cannot go and teach
a student yourself, you can help through another teacher. They can teach.
So seva is that what you can do, yes!
If you have time, you can give time. If you have money, you can give money.
In whichever way you help, it is called seva.

Q: Gurudev, you have so many disciples. How do you keep track of each
disciple's spiritual progress?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: That is my trade secret! (Guruji says laughing!)

Q: Dearest Guruji, any valentine in the world pampers his partner,
reciprocates the love, etc. How can we find the same satisfaction in the
Divine Valentine?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: The Divine has already pampered you enough. Know that
you are already pampered so much. And it will continue.

Q: Guruji, how do we avoid 'Karma Bandhan' (bondage due to actions) in our
daily life?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: Karma Bandhan is when there is some craving or there
is some aversion. Both craving and aversion we call as 'Karma Bandhan'.
So when you do an action without aversion or craving, with a smile, with a
free mind and a clean heart, then there is no bondage. Such kind of action
brings that inner freedom too.

Q: Can you please say something for the people who are visually impaired?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: Yes! Being visually impaired is not an impediment for
growth. You all should remember this.
Surdas, a great saint of this country was visually impaired. Dhritarashtra
was an emperor who ruled India and he too was visually impaired. So there
are many examples.
Swami Shraddhananda, one of the greatest saints of this century was visually
impaired. Just few decades ago, he attained his final abode.
Swami Shraddhanandaji used to go to Brindavan to see the temple every day.
Someone asked him, 'Swamiji, you can't see, and there is a big rush in the
temple, why do you go there? What do you see?' He smiled and replied, 'If I
don't see, at least the Lord is seeing me. He wants to see me, that is why I
am going there. So it doesn't matter if I cannot see. Do you think He is
also unable to see me? Let Him see me. He feels happy by my going there.'
So, this is the depth of devotion, depth of love and the confidence - that
the Divinity loves me. You should not ask proof of Divine's love for you.
You should never ask that. Always know that the Divine loves me, that is it!
Full stop! No question mark in front of that.
Same with everybody in your day to day life also, don't question others love
for you.
Does Guruji love me? This question should not be there at all. Similarly, my
friend loves me or not, my husband loves me or not, or my wife loves me or
not - don't put question marks in front of love. Simply believe they love
you and move on. Whatever their behavior is immaterial.

Q: Guruji, God is the operator of this creation and God is our Father. Then
why does misery, poverty and ignorance exist?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: Someone asked a saint this same question, 'Why does
sorrow exist in this world?' The saint said, 'God has kept it for me. Why?
Because in spite of there being sorrow I am unable to renounce this world,
how would I renounce it if there was no sorrow? And if I don't renounce it,
how will I be able to turn my attention towards God?'
The attention never turns to God.
So the saint said, 'Sorrow exists so that I do not get caught up in the
world. Even after there being so much sorrow, I am so caught up here, and I
do not turn towards God. That is why God made this (world) sorrowful, so
that one can enjoy it for a little while, and then renounce it and turn back
towards God.' That is why it is said, 'Dukh mein sumiran sab karen, sukh
mein kare na koye, sukh mein sumiran jo kare, dukh kaahe ko hoye.'

Q: Guruji, what is the difference between Guru, Dharma Guru and Satguru?
The other question is, it is believed that in this universe, in any given
era, there is only one Satguru; so who is that Satguru, and if it is you,
please answer?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: It is said, 'Mere Guru hi jagat Guru hain - mere naath
hi Jagat ke naath hain' (My master is the master of this Universe) - this is
what one should believe, and this is the truth.
Dharma Guru, Jagat Guru or Sat Guru, these are just different names - what
is it that you need - take it and move ahead.
One who speaks about the truth is Satguru. Satguru cannot be someone's name.
Who is a Satguru? One who shows you the truth.
Just as there is a Sangeet Guru (music teacher), there is a Satguru (Guru of
truth). Satguru is one who makes you aware of what is truth, what is
untruth, what is this world, what is the soul. The one who teaches you to
understand these distinctions is called Satguru.

Q: If everything is pre-destined then why does a human being need to do
anything?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: Though everything is destined, man has to make efforts
to get what he likes and what he wants. For example, if you want sunlight in
your house, you need to open the windows and doors to see it. You cannot
shut the windows and expect the sunlight to come into the house. At the same
time you cannot open the windows and doors at midnight and expect the
sunlight.
So you need to make efforts towards your goal and what has to happen will
happen. Your efforts and destiny, both go together.

Q: Dear Guruji, no matter how much I meditate, I cannot control my temper.
What do I do?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: Do not try to control your temper, do pranayama
regularly. Try to accept people as they are in this world, never try to
change them but accept them.
Keep meditating, if you cannot control your temper even after meditating,
imagine the kind of temper you will have without meditating. So meditate and
do pranayama and it will gradually decrease.

Q: Guruji, I am following you with all my heart for the last 4 years and I
have started growing a beard and wearing white clothes. My parents and wife
are very unhappy with me.
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: You don't need to do all that. Shave off your beard
and wear normal colored clothes and be normal.
Role model does not mean you have to wear the same type of clothes and
everything. No! Be compassionate, be loving and do all the good work you
need to do.

Q: Guruji, could you talk on Shivratri and its importance?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: Mahashivratri is the day when the Shiva tattva touches
the ground, touches the earth. The consciousness which is always ten inches
above the material ground; the aura, the ethereal world which is ten inches
above the surface, touches the earth element on Mahashivrathri day.
So, it is very useful for people to keep awake and meditate on that day.
Do not eat too much, eat very light and do more meditation, then it helps in
fulfillment of desires. This is the ancient belief. It helps you to grow
stronger in your being. It is like a new year for a saadhak (seeker), for
spiritual growth, spiritual attainment and worldly attainment, so it is
considered auspicious.
The night on this day, when the constellations are in some particular
position, is very auspicious for meditation. That is the ancient belief.
That doesn't mean it doesn't happen on any other day. Any time your heart is
open, your mind is calm and steady, prayers do get answered. But Shivratri
day is celebrated with the singing of the ancient vedic chants and a
ceremony is done, and it is considered a very auspicious time for a
spiritual aspirant.
It is the wedding of the material with the spiritual.
The material which is eight fold came close to the ethereal which is also
eight fold.
So what the eight fold prakriti (nature)? Earth, water, fire, air, ether,
mind, intellect and ego; all these come in contact with the subtle eight,
i.e., the Shiva Tattva.

People usually eat very light, some fruits or something and fast. I don't
recommend you fasting without anything. Take some fruits or some light
easily digestible food and spend the day awake and at night meditate. You
don't need to do meditation all night. Meditate for some time.
We will have satsang and some celebrations. That's it!
In fact every day is a very auspicious day because we do satsang every day.
In ancient times, people used to say okay, if you cannot do every day, at
least one day in a year, on Shivratri day, do meditation and keep awake.
Wake the Divinity that is deep within you. That is the message. The Divinity
is within you, let it wake up!

Q: Is there any significance of not sleeping the whole night? How long
should we stay awake?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: No, don't strain yourself. Be natural.

Q: Why is Mahashivratri called as Mahashivratri (night of Shiva) and not
Mahashivadiwas (day of Shiva)?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: Yes, I have spoken about it. Read the book. Raatri
means that which gives you comfort, gives you rest; from what? That which
gives us rest from the three Taapa (miseries) is Raatri: Aadi bhautika
(Physical), Aadhyaatmika (Spiritual) and Aadi Daivika (Ethereal).
Taapayitra refers to problem/suffering; that time which takes us from misery
towards relief is known as Raatri.

Calm the mind with yoga wisdom

Why we fight. Sri Sri says, "Some feeling came into you, an unpleasant
feeling, and you said, 'This should not come, it should not come!' " Two
unique and special human beings will often have different expectations on
the same subject. When there is resistance to an idea, often we tend to want
to escape the situation, or become aggressive. "When you resist, it
persists," says Sri Sri. "Just observe. See, 'Oh!' Go deep into it."
Dropping the resistance to a new, differing idea can avoid a fight.

Just remembering to accept imperfections, we can agree with ourselves to
allow room for imperfections, and for the fight. It is allowed to happen.
And everything will be okay afterwards. "Life is a movement from
imperfection to perfection". A seed contains the tree but the seed has to
cease to be a seed to become a tree. The seed is not perfect. The sapling is
not perfect. So in life you can either see imperfection at every step, or
you can see a movement from one perfection to another perfection.

In areas frequently affected by hurricanes and cyclones, beautiful palm
trees dot the coastline. Here is something I call "the swaying palm tree"
exercise: Imagine yourself as a palm tree that sways in hurricane-force
winds. The palm tree bends, but doesn't break. With yoga and meditation,
over time, the mind can stay as beautiful and pliable as a palm tree. So the
next time a storm brews before a fight, with yoga, you'll be able to smile
through it. Things may bend, but they don't have to break.

A last bit of yoga wisdom about love: "Love is not an emotion, it is our
very existence," says Sri Sri. "At any time you feel your love is shaken by
some conflict, brush it aside. Be indifferent. Indifference takes you beyond
the opposite of love and hate."

Subject: SAHAJ SAMADHI MEDITATION COURSE

EFFORTLESS PATH TO TRUE RELAXATION THROUGH MEDITATION

Everyone has experienced a meditative state in moments of deep joy, or when
completely engrossed in an activity, when just for a moment the mind becomes
so light and at ease. While we have such moments, we are unable to repeat
them at will. The Sahaj Samadhi course teaches you how. This meditation
technique almost instantly alleviates the practitioner from stress-related
problems, deeply relaxes the mind and rejuvenates the system.
Sahaj is a Sanskrit word that means natural or effortless. Samadhi is a
deep, blissful, meditative state. Sahaj Samadhi meditation is a natural,
effortless system of meditation.
Regular practise of the technique can totally transform the quality of one's
life, by culturing the system to maintain the peace, energy and expanded
awareness throughout the day. These meditation techniques combined with
yogic practises can ensure good health and a calm mind.

Meditation allows the conscious mind to settle deeply in the Self, giving it
rest When the mind settles down, it lets go of all tension, making one
healthy and focused

How does Sahaj Samadhi meditation work?

The participant is taught to use a simple sound mentally which allows the
mind to settle down and go within. When the mind and nervous system are
allowed to repose a few moments in the profound silence, the blocks that
clog the system and our progress gradually dissolve.

How does reposing in the Self help in day-to-day life

When a river is calm, its reflection is clearer. When the mind is calm,
there is greater clarity in the field of expression. Our powers of
observation, perception and expression improve. As a result we are able to
communicate effectively and clearly.

Why do I need a mantra?

In Sanskrit, a mantra is described as, "Manana trayate iti mantra.". Iti
Mantra is that which saves you from repetitiveness. A repetitive thought is
a worry. Mantras help to free you from worries.
Last Date to Register for the upcoming Sahaj Samadhi Meditation Course is
26th Feb 2012.
Dates : 28th , 29th Feb and 1st March 2012.

Subject: Knowledge Sheet from Sri Sri... Guru is a Mirror

A Guru is a mirror

February 15, 2012

(Below is the transcript of Satsang with Sri Sri Ravi Shankar)

Welcome back home everybody! You all have come from long distances, so rest
well.
After many years we are having Shivarathri in the ashram. Usually
Shivarathri program needs a bigger venue, but we thought somehow we will fit
in and we will accommodate. We keep needing bigger places all the time. If
there is place in the heart, there is place everywhere. But this means that
you all will have to take a little bit of responsibility as well.

Q: Guruji, here in Russia some people say that they have found the Vedas in
Russia too. Can you please comment on this?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: Yeah, it is possible.
Once upon a time it was everywhere in the world, it was in South America,
Mexico, in Peru. It was in all these places. The Mayan civilization in Peru
went from Sri Lanka actually. So the whole world was connected at one point
of time in history. That is why the Vedas are not to one particular country
or language, it is universal.
If you listen to Russian language, the expert scholars say that the language
has a lot of Sanskrit words. So does German.

Q: How to take a sankalpa and how to make one's sankalpa strong and
effective?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: Being hollow and empty!
When sankalpa arises in your heart then take the sankalpa and expand your
consciousness with the context of time and space in the vast universe. In
this huge universe, in this huge time, I want this little sankalpa to happen
and I am confident it will happen by God's grace. This is what has to be
done.
Take a desire and feel it will be heard.
Suppose you are asking a question to somebody and you have a doubt whether
the question will be answered or not, you will not fully ask the question,
right? You will hesitate to ask the question or somewhere you will make
errors even in process of asking. So the right way of asking is first
knowing that the person knows and is going to give the answer.
Suppose in a gas station you go and ask the person, how to go to this
particular place. You do it with full confidence that the person knows it at
the gas station. Otherwise you will not ask them, isn't it?
That confidence you should have. I have this request and it will be granted
to me.

Q: Guruji would you even consider writing your autobiography? Please share
your stories which you have never shared with us. I am sure that you will
answer this question.
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: Sometime, yes!

Q: I have read about Goliwale baba in 'Stumbling Into Infinity' by Michael
Fischman. As per Michael, Goliwale baba got enlightened in an accident. He
did not have any guru. Is it possible to get enlightened without Guru's
grace?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: No, grace is needed. But life is so vast and so
infinite. This is not just the only lifetime we have been here. It is not
Goliwale, he is Gouwale Guruji.
There was a gentleman - Gauwale Guruji in Delhi, who used to sit in Kotla
Mubarakpur. I was introduced to him. He used to stay in a small place. He
also had a guru, not that he never had a guru. In those days I was only
seventeen, eighteen or nineteen or something like that.
He used to say, 'Yogiraj, come!' He used to give me a lot of respect. First
I thought he was making fun of me. I was only a small kid; even now I am
only a child!

Q: Guruji can I live with full freedom? Many times my freedom becomes a
problem for another.
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: Yes, you should see that your freedom should not
create trouble for someone else. You should take a middle path. If you
always focus your attention on others, at some point you will feel
frustrated, and if you think only of yourself, you will cause frustration to
others. So somewhere along the line you need to take a middle path; take
some and give some.
Suppose you feel like doing meditation and somebody else wants you do their
work, it is okay to do their work if it is an emergency. But if it is not
very important, it is just a daily routine thing, then do your meditation,
take out time for yourself.

Q: Guruji, whenever we look at you, something happens. When you look at
yourself in the mirror, does something happen to you as well?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: (Laughs) Oh really! Something happens?! I myself am a
mirror. If you look at me, you see yourself. If you are loving, you will see
love in me. A Guru is a mirror.

Q: Guruji, when we have accepted the Guru as everything then what is the
purpose of worshiping all the other Gods?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: No, there is no compulsion. It is only a tradition
which has been continuing. There is only one Bramha, only one God; but
sometimes we worship Him in the form of Ganesh, sometimes as Shiva,
sometimes as Kartikeya and sometimes in the form of Divine Mother. So
whenever you do pooja, see everything in that One. That is why, any mantra
or any pooja begins with Guru pooja first 'Gurubhyo Namah Harihi Om' - this
is how it starts. Guru is honored first and then God is worshipped.
There should be a feeling of oneness - first oneness with the Guru and God,
and then oneness between the Self, Guru and God. There is no difference
between God and myself. I, Guru and God are One. This is called Advaita
knowledge. Repeating 'everything is one', realizing this and reposing in it
is samadhi; meditation.

Q: Guruji, in Shiva Purana, Shivaji has been considered supreme, and in Devi
Bhagvat, Devi has been considered supreme. So which Purana is supreme?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: Whichever you are reading, at that time that is
supreme. When you are reading Bhagavad, then Krishna is everything. There is
nothing else other than that. When reading Devi Bhagvata, that alone is
everything, that is supreme. That is what it is. Whatever is on my plate
today is the best food for today.

Q: Guruji, these days, Ayurveda has changed all the definitions. If someone
is angry, they say, 'Today his pitta is very high.' If work gets messed up,
it is a problem of vata, and if someone does something bad towards me, it is
a matter of tamas. Ayurveda has created a big problem, Guruji. Now one
cannot say anything to anyone!
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: No! Ayurveda has made it very easy for you. It has
made it so easy, that it has prevented anger and hatred from entering into
you! You can understand the people, who have got what problem, and it has
made it much easier for you to understand the situation better. You should
be grateful, you should give thanks. Ayurveda has revealed such a
perspective to you that you will stop finding fault in people.
Someone has so much hatred and hostility - it is because of ignorance, on
account of tamo-guna and rajo-guna. He is immature and that is why he feels
hate.
See, whatever one has, only that he can give. One who has only garbage in
his mind can give only garbage; one who has anger will give anger; one who
has abuse will give abuses.
When you see it from this perspective, you will not have any hatred towards
that person. At least your mind will be at peace.

Q: Guruji, many psychologists say that love is just our imagination. I have
also read that true love is born out of truth alone. Is there a relationship
between love and truth?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: Love is something which is present everywhere.
Sometimes it can arise from imagination, sometimes it can arise
spontaneously without any reason. Sometimes it can arise by just seeing
someone or while resting it can arise. Sometimes, while taking a walk in the
evening or while the sun is setting something might stir inside your mind,
or it can also happen in meditation.
Love is your very nature; it is there within you, and around you, eternally.
So when, what will become a reason for love to blossom, cannot be said.

Subject: Mumbai saw its biggest Mega Part I Course with Maheish Girri ji

The proud AOL team of Navi Mumbai is holding her head high as we saw a major makeover at Navi Mumbai, we saw a glimpse of peaceful revolution with "Renaissance Man" – Shri Maheish Girri ji, who came to conduct the Mega Part I Course & left many, awaken and aroused … It was Mumbai's biggest Mega Part I Course so far with 1150 participants for the morning and evening batches. a fantastic result of a Mahan sankalp, Master's Grace coupled with persistent and relentless efforts of the team. Including volunteers, devotees and teachers, more than 1500 people came from entire Navi Mumbai – Airoli, Ghansoli, Koparkhirane, Vashi, Sanpada,Nerul, CBD Belapur, Kharghar, Kamothe, Panvel, Uran.

Take a glimpse of the Gala event-

https://picasaweb.google.com/113273590811853953298/MumbaiSBiggestAOLPartICourseWithMaheishGirriJi?authuser=0&feat=directlink

Some of the participants shared the experiences that they got through the Course and experiencing the Divine "Sudarshan Kriya" for the first time on camera.

· A gentleman named Mr. Bhagat was keeping extremely unwell before the course began and he was not too sure if he would be in a position to attend the course. Not only did he attend the course, but was feeling absolutely fine throughout the course. He went back home pretty hale, hearty and happy.

· A lady named Mrs. Sujata Patil was going through a severe bout of depression. She went back home feeling very light and with tears of gratitude in her eyes.

· Dr. Sangeeta Shrivastava, she has gone on record saying "Meri Duniya 3 din mein badal gayi hai". Being a doctor, she has been counseling her patients, but she herself was looking for solutions for her frustrations, depression and tensions!!! Now, the mind is only full of positive thoughts and in her words – LIFE IS COOL!!!"

· Anurag Shrivastav, an engineer says, "Many of the knowledge points shared in the course are known to us in different forms! However, the way it was taught in the course was so simple and completely practical – people who have not attended the course earlier tend to think that such spiritual courses could lead people away from their family life (vairaagya!!!), but now I think very differently. Being an Engineer, I feel the course was like a Mathematical formula that solves the problems of day to day life. The beauty is that it is so very easily implementable, and it motivates you to lead a very lively life."

· Nikhil Karnik, a practitioner of Art of Living for close to 2 years attended the Part-I course says, "The biggest difference I feel is that though the situations around me compared to a couple of years back may have only worsened (e.g. Traffic in Mumbai city, Work pressures and responsibilities, etc.), my reactions to the situations have changed tremendously, mostly positively."

It was a GRAND EXPEREINCE IN ALL REGARDS- FULL OF ENERGY, DEVOTION, LEARNING & CELEBRATION. For 3 days we were on our toes joyfully. The 5 Basic course points was never explained so explicitly. He is "WOW"(Wonder of wonders)! Such courses are a must for everyone all over the world. Spellbound meditation, and the Sudarshan kriya experience was magical. It was a complete and wholesome course. Every moment was enriching. It's soul nourishing and soul stirring. It's a Must "Soup for every soul." This course indeed a 'yagna'in itself.. The flames of knowledge, dissipated the inhibitions, doubts and conflicts in us and filled us and the atmosphere with the fumes of joy, celebration and service.

DSN translates to "Do Something Now". It is a rigorous and transformational course that empowers participants to break through personal inhibitions and barriers and access inner stability and power.

We each have a deep desire to be the best we can be - for ourselves, our families, our communities and even our world - but many of us have personal barriers, old habits, or inhibitions that hold us back and keep us from fully participating in life.Old emotional wounds, self-concepts, attitudes, and fears can also be obstacles to living the life we really want.

DSN uses a powerful combination of yoga, group processes, and deep spiritual knowledge to break through personal barriers and create personal empowerment.

Subject: Invitation Marma Therapy Training in Bad Antogast Spring 2012

We are very pleased to announce our next Marma Therapy Training.

We are delighted to invite each of you to our next Marma therapy course, which will take place in Bad Antogast at the Sri Sri Ayurveda centre, from 24th until 30th March 2012.

This course is a journey to the heart, it will lead you to deep rest and to joyful time in the Ashram at Black Forrest. Sadhana, daily Pooja , Satsang , pure nature and much more are welcoming you.

This is a unique opportunity to learn Marma from such an experienced person. The training will include basic ancient knowledge about Marma therapy as well the basics of Ayurveda Knowledge.

What is Marma therapy?

Marma is a Sanskrit word meaning ' secret, hidden, vital.' On the surface of our body are sensitive points where energy or Prana is concentrated. Marma is the ancient technique of activating energy points on the physical level to energise and relax the whole system. By exerting gentle pressure on these Marma points, one can release the blocks and allow the Prana or life energy to flow to the connecting organs or tissues, thus giving them a new lease of life. Marma promotes a greater balance and integration of the body, mind and consciousness.

Subject: To Share.... THE GURU

God and Guru are in tenet not different. Just as the prey that has fallen
into the jaws of a tiger cannot escape, so those who have come under the
glance of the Guru's grace will surely be saved and will never be forsaken;
yet one should follow without fail the path shown by the Guru.

There are no disciples but from the point of view of the disciple the grace
of the Guru is like the ocean. If the disciple comes with a cup he will only
get a cupful. It is no use complaining of the niggardliness of the ocean;
the bigger the vessel the more he will be able to carry. It is entirely up
to him.

The term Guru is often loosely used to describe anyone who gives out
spiritual advice, but the word has a much more restricted definition. A True
Guru is someone who has realised the Self and who is able to use his power
to assist others towards the goal of Self-realisation.

It's often said that God, Guru and the Self are identical; the Guru is God
in human form and, simultaneously, he is also the Self in the Heart of each
devotee. Because he is both inside and outside, his powers work in two
different ways. The outer Guru gives instructions and by his power enables
the devotee to keep his attention on the Self; the inner Guru pulls the
devotee's mind back to its source, absorbs it in the Self and finally
destroys it.

It is a basic tenet is that a Guru is necessary for almost everyone who is
striving towards a permanent awareness of the Self. The catalytic role of
the Guru in spiritual development is therefore crucial; except in rare
instances, ignorance of the Self is so deeply rooted that individual seekers
are unable to escape from it by their own efforts.

Although a Guru is indispensable for those seeking Self-realisation, the
Guru has no power to bring about realisation in those who are not
energetically seeking it. If the individual seeker makes a serious attempt
to discover the Self, then the grace and power of the Guru will
automatically start to flow. If no such attempt is made, the Guru is
helpless.

Dear one,

The VAASTU SHASTRA course at the Art of Living International Center, Bangalore:

The Art of Living presents an opportunity to learn and promote the divine oriental science and art for a peaceful and harmonious living through Vaastu Shastra. A 7-day course on Vaastu Shastra will be conducted at the Art of Living international center in Bangalore, India, from February 23rd to 29th, 2012.

What is Vaastu Shastra?
The science of energy, which deals with the construction of houses, palaces, temples and towns is called Vaastu Shastra. It reads the characteristics of houses/plots and explains the effect of the same to the inmate of the house. This science is also based on the laws of nature. Its theories offer us a way of understanding the relationship between humans and their environment and about how everything is connected and affects our well-being. In other words, Vaastu Shastra is the science of building and essentially the art of balancing nature with manmade environment and the correct placement of man in such a manner so as to get the maximum benefits of the energy emanated by natural and man-made environment. Constructed by 18 Divine Maharishis like Bhrugu, Atri and Vasishtha, this science has a tradition of more than 10,000 years.

Role & Benefits of Vaastu Shastra
Vaastu is the bridge between man and nature. Everything is made up of basic five elements FIRE, WATER, EARTH, SPACE, and AIR. If the residential and commercial buildings are constructed without any regards to these elements then how will they give any benefits? From each of the basic elements we get a strange precious gift due to infinite powers of the universe and when the tenets of Vaastu Shastra are followed, it brings you the '3 Ps' of life: Peace, Prosperity and Progress. Vaastu is in a position to reduce the gravity of the problems faced by human beings and industries through vibrations of the five great elements that have anchored their roots in the body of human beings as well as the external and internal building configurations.

Course Information
The course will cover a wide range of topics right from the philosophy of Vaastu Shastra to its planning and astrological relevance. Topics like Origin and development of Scientific Indian Vaastu,Vaastu concept and Characteristics,Selection of site, Various components of Vaastu and so on with 4 practical sessions included. After completion of the course, participants will have to submit answer papers following which they will be awarded "Vaastu Visharad" certificate. To: E Group <esatsang@artofliving.org>

Jai Gurudev!

Pune Rocked on Feb 14th! We had an Interactive Session with Rajshree Didi about Success in Life and Relationships. Around 2000 people attended the event, majority of them were youngsters.

Below are "some" excerpts of the session.

"Do You Want to be Happy or Right"

The session was about Relationship in today's age. Love is more important than breath. If you had all the riches in the life but no one to love, would you want that life? Life is not a "Bollywood" movie. No couple in real life is seen running in the garden behind trees. Marriage is Marriage and Dating is Dating. Both have their own rules. The best way to judge a boy is to see his relation with his mother and the best way to judge a girl is to see her relation with her own father.

Life is about being happy. Everyone wants to be happy. However, we get lost in being right. When we choose to prove ourself right, we often end up proving the other person wrong. The other person then waits for a chance to prove us wrong. And the cycle continues.

One needs to focus on himself or herself first. Bring clarity in mind. Understand what does he/she really need? Pranayaam and Meditation are the tools that definitely help.

Love and Regards,

Dheerajj Agarwaal

Subject: Presenting the much awaited " Satyam Param Dhimahi" Meditation and Chanting by Gurudev

We are very pleased to release the much awaited product - Meditation and Chanting by Param Poojya Gurudev " Satyam Param Dhimahi"

Dharana, Dhyaan, Samadhi...'Dharana' is to fixate the mind at one point, place word or mantra. When we take attention on different parts of body - it is dharana on the body. Anchoring attention on a certain point and t5he releasing it from there leads to 'dhyaan'(meditation), Gradually this practice leads to 'samadhi' - an elevated, equanimous state of consciousness.

In this beautiful meditation H. H. Sri SRi Ravi Shankar helps us arrest the wandering mind through chanting 'Satyam Param Dhimahi' and guided us through a beautiful journey with-in.

'Satyam Param Dhimahi' - May my intellect get soaked in the truth of transcendental reality.

Chanting Satyam Param Dhimahi brings the resilience and spiritual strength needed to fight corruption. Let us create a wave in India from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. From (chanting) Satyam Param Dhimahi (Let Truth, Divinity and Knowledge shine through me), it will move into 'Satyam eva Jayathe' (Truth alone shall prevail).

Subject: Presenting the Book by Gurudev " Love is not an Emotion - It is your very existence".

Sri Sri Publications Trust is proud to present the Book by H.H. Sri Sri Ravi Shankar " Love is not an Emotion - It is your very existence".

Love and Existence

Love is not an emotion, it is your very existence. When you love someone you don't judge them. You always want them to be happy.Love is the phenomenon of total letting go.
Love is a path of joy, a path of singing and dancing. It is a valley of flowers. The peak of love is silence, contentment, a state of complete fulfillment and deep meditation.

"Love is the strongest force in this universe.Love is the only thing that you can not think about, if you think,it ceases to be love;when thinking stop, love begins. Love is beyond sight, touch, smell, taste and sound.

About the Book

In the book 'Love is not an Emotion', His Holiness Sri Sri Ravi Shankar has given an completely different perspective on this phenomenon known as - Love. His words have given Love a whole new meaning and depth. Love is not an emotion, not a feeling, not the sudden quickening of the heart on seeing the loved one, not something we fall in and out of, and yet it is all of this and much much more. The book explores Love like never before - right from its origins to its forms to our thirst for it, our response to it, and more".

Subject: Knowledge Seet From Sri Sri... Almighty never denies you self-realization

Almighty never denies you self-realization

February 07, 2012

(Below is the transcript of Satsang with Sri Sri Ravi Shankar)

Q: Guruji, the season is changing once again. Can you please tell us the importance of 'Ahar Vihar', food and lifestyle to be maintained with every season. How does it impact us?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: Ancient people have done a lot of research on that. Also the modern nutritionists have done quite a bit of research, and if you go and Google, you find a lot of things on what to eat in this season. Today all knowledge is available on the fingertips, correct!
According to Ayurveda there are Vata, Pitta, and Kapha seasons. Now when the summer comes, it is the Pitta that will go high, so you have to take things which calms the Pitta.
Nature is such that it produces only those things which are good for that season. Like in winter pumpkins and gooseberries grow. These are necessary for winter and in summer, they cut watermelons and sugarcanes and make sugarcane juice. This is the season of watermelon. Watermelon never comes in winter and they would not grow watermelon in winter. Watermelon comes up only in this season, now.
So the fruits, vegetables and everything, nature has done it in such a way to suit us according to the time and season. But now, we have gone so far away from nature and our body has also gotten adjusted to that. Otherwise when you are in a climate where bananas, papayas and mangoes grow, there apples do not grow. But now we eat apples also here. We bring apple from other regions. Where apples are grown, bananas don't grow there in the same climate. Pears, apples, peaches, berries, strawberries and cherries, they all grow in one climate. Is it not?
But you will see people in those climates eat papaya and bananas, which don't grow there.
That is the ideal thing, but you do not need to worry about it because now your body is used to apple, pineapple and everything, but in one meal see to that you take only those things together. Suppose you are taking bananas, papaya, chikoo and coconut, they all go together. They are tropical fruits. Then at another time you can eat apples, pears, cherries and as such.

Q: Guruji, what is the significance of 'deep' pooja on full moon day?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: The ancient tradition is either full moon or new moon is a celebration, and in a celebration we light a lot of lamps. This is done even today. Whenever you see that there is a celebration, you put a lot of serial lamps and serial lights, is it not?
Also Christmas lights; they are even called Christmas lights because in Christmas season you like to light up the whole place. In Deepavali, lighting a lot of lamps creates an atmosphere of celebration.
That is what 'deep' pooja is.
Our life is like light, so lighting the light of wisdom within each one of us and lighting the light of love.
You will see here in India, the lamps have got five wicks and the five wicks symbolize the five senses. Let there be awareness and light in the five senses, that is the wish.
Our body is like a lamp and it has five senses and they should all be lit.

Q: Dear Guruji, when things go great in one's life, how to keep the simplicity and humility?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: Trying to keep simplicity becomes a problem. Just be natural and that is it. And do seva.
'Sukh mein seva aur dukh mein tyag.'
If you tell a sad person to do seva, he would not do. When someone is sad or upset, if you ask them to do seva, they cannot. They are so immersed in their sorrow and they do not feel like doing anything. There they should just give up. When you are upset - give up and when you are happy - serve.
Keep this formula, it will be good!

Q: Guruji there are many different sadhanas, many practices, poojas, asanas, meditations, chantings, and prayers. How do we know which one is the best and when?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: Meditation is best.
Everything has its significance. Everything has its own value, but in meditation you become so quiet, you become so deep. That uplifts you and brings value to chanting, to pooja, and to everything. Service and everything becomes more meaningful if you have meditation in life.

Q: Guruji, often I have observed that God gives me all worldly things without fail, but in case of self-realization, why is it that I am being ignored and denied by the almighty? Why the wait?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: No, you are never denied that. Almighty never denies you self-realization.
Keep doing your sadhana, keep doing seva. And in advance course you understand, when you sit in silence and when you say 'I am' in the 'I am' meditation, you see everything is a dream.
Everything is changing but something in me is not changing. That is it!
Do not imagine that your self-realization is one day some atma is going to come in front of you and say, 'hey! I am here!' That is not going to happen.
The soul is not a subject of knowledge or a subject of knowing. It is the knower.

Q: Why do we need to choose a life partner Guruji? Life would be much simpler if we loved everyone or no one.
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: Now, tell me what is your trouble? Do you have a partner or not? Then I will tell you. Or someone whom you are seeing, your girlfriend is asking you to choose and marry?! I know what is happening! You cannot ask me indirect questions and use it. (Laughter)

Q: Gurudev, there is a new problem in my life because of Facebook and Internet. My wife gets upset when she sees female friends on my friend list, but when my wife makes male friends on the net, she does it without any hesitation. How to tackle this?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: Well, you know I have no experience to handle these situations. You must ask your friends only, they may give some ideas. Or why not ask your own wife? Ask her how to solve this.
You know, there is a proverb, 'give the keys to the thief and make the thief the guard.'
So where there is a problem try to find a solution there. Ask her to give you a solution. Let us see!

Q: Guruji, sometimes you tell us to keep one wish when we sit for mass meditation and it will get fulfilled. Kindly tell me whether it is applicable for viewers of the webcast also.
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: Yes, when you meditate, it is possible. Why not try? I cannot guarantee, but you should try.

Q: What really are spiritual guides? Do they really exist? Sometimes I feel the presence of something uncanny around me. What should I do? Is it normal?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: No, just do not worry. Do not go into that arena.
What you have here now is a higher field than that. Otherwise if you go into the field of spirits, it is a lower field. What we are doing here, the Vedanta, the meditation and knowledge is much higher.
If you feel such a presence, just fold your hands and greet it and that is it.
People may say, 'Oh, that guide is coming and talking to me', or 'This guide says this'.
It is there but it is another world, we do not need to get into it. It is not necessary. It can lead into a lot of complications or what we call yogmaya.

Q: Guruji, what is Hatha yoga. Is it different from normal yoga? What is specific to this tradition of yoga?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: No, Hatha yoga is one in which force or effort is used, like asanas, different kinds of difficult postures – these are all part of Hatha yoga.
A little bit of Hatha yoga is there wherever asanas are done, it is part of hatha yoga, but you don't need to go very deep into it. If you want to go deep into it, it has to be started in childhood. It will take many years to master it.
You can stop a moving truck or a moving vehicle with Hatha Yoga. You can master pranayama and break a metal rod into two with your hands – many people have done this. They are able to break iron rods with their hands.
Doing a little bit of Hatha yoga keeps the body healthy and strong. So, it is good for that.

Q: Guruji, what is Maharasa? Does Sri Hari (Lord Krishna) perform Maharasa even today?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: Maharasa is this only, satsang! Where there is juice, where one gets so intoxicated and experiences so much love and joy, that everywhere only God is visible – that is Maharasa.
Where nothing besides God exists; if such a feeling arises in you that you forgot everything else, then know that Maharasa or meditation has happened. At that time there is no worry in the mind – worry about this or that. When all worldly matters are completely forgotten then that is Maharasa.
If you get even a glimpse of it sometimes for a short period of time, that is enough. Life begins to go very smoothly and very beautifully.

Q: Guruji, what is the significance of sindoor (vermillion)? I would like to know why is sindoor a symbol of marriage (suhaag)? It is often seen that women do not apply sindoor even after marriage. Why is that?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: Yes! Where sindoor is applied is where the pituitary glands are located (Guruji says pointing to the center of his forehead); pineal or pituitary glands.
There are seven chakras or seven energy centers in our body. So, where the pituitary glands are located, when you apply sindoor, particularly the one with turmeric, on top of sandalwood – then the vibrations of it stimulate the whole body and the mind remains calm and centered. Especially women who are very emotional, it is said that by applying sindoor on the forehead, their mind remains calm.
And the second thing is, it is part of dressing up, it looks beautiful.

In this world, in all the ancient civilizations, whether you look at the tribal people of Australia, or the tribal people of Canada, or the ancient people of Africa, they all put something on their forehead. They all have some tradition of applying some kind of bindi on their foreheads. But in the Indian civilization this tradition has existed since ancient times. Even when someone comes, we apply tilak (dot of sindoor on the forehead), to indicate that the person is civilized, educated and cultured, and whose mind is calm and mature. It became a symbol of all of this.
The meaning of Haldi (turmeric) is that, without haldi, nothing can move forward for us. Anything good and auspicious happens, we have to use turmeric.
It is said that there is no other antioxidant like turmeric. It is a very good antioxidant. It stops many diseases from developing.

And another thing that a scientist told me – there are these very tiny mites on our forehead. Three kinds of mites are there – one near the eye brow, one in the middle of the forehead, and one in the upper part of the forehead, and each type has their fixed territory. The ones on the lower forehead will not go to the middle or the ones from the upper forehead region will not come down to the middle or lower part of forehead. So these small mites or bugs live on our bodies.
So men apply bhasma (ashes) on their forehead, and women apply haldi kumkum on top of sandalwood. By applying that, the point of the pituitary gland is also protected. This is the belief. It is applied on the Agya Chakra and has an effect on it.
Anyway, whatever it is, it is a symbol of the culture. Take it as this, and apply it.

Once when I had gone to Rajasthan, I met some women there who make bindis. It is their livelihood. Those women were telling me that since the past five to six years, their income had become one fourth of what it used to be. They make those small plastic ones (bindi).
So they were all very unhappy, all of those women, saying that, 'See, before we used to be able to sell so much, but now we are not able to sell. Nobody applies them anymore.'
So I said, 'No, no, I will tell everyone.'
I promised those women that I will tell all the women that they should apply (bindi), so that their means of living continues. So since then I tell everyone who comes to me; I keep asking them to apply the bindi. What I had promised to them, that I will not allow their business to die; so I advise all women to buy and apply (bindi). Since then I keep telling everyone.

Q: Guruji, you embrace terrorists and Naxalites, and you don't even look in my direction. Sometimes out of love for you, the thought arises that I should become someone like them.
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: You are so close to me, how do I look at you? One who is far away only comes in the line of sight; is visible. How to look at one who is already standing so close to me?
I am in your heart, and you are in my heart, so where is the need to hug?
