Subject: Update on New Boone Facility & Home
Dear Friends, we Just closed on on our new home by the New Boone NC Art of
Living Center. Here is an updte on that project:
Rarely does an opportunity come by to make a lasting impact on the world -
both now and for generations to come.
As most of you are aware, the Art of Living Foundation took possession of a
beautiful mountaintop facility consisting of 17 apartment buildings, two
meditation halls, two dining halls, four huge classrooms, and a warehouse
building in late October. Many of the buildings on the facility were left
unused for several years leading to major damage. As we spend more time on
the property, we are realizing that the expenses are much more than we had
anticipated. This is mainly because of a very large number of frozen pipes
in the heating system, plumbing system and sprinkler system.
The current estimate for getting the facility operational is in the range of
$2 - $2.5 Million. A daunting task lies ahead of us. This can only be
completed with Sri Sri Ravi Shankars blessings and all our active support
and participation - both by contributing funds and our time.
The pressing need of the time is to get the facility ready to host the Grand
Opening July Full Moon Guru Purnima Celebrations this summer. They launched
a capital campaign in late December with the goal of raising $2 Million for
the restoration of our facilities. To date, they have raised $128,000 from
around the country. This is about 5% of the total requirement.
Projects completed so far:
The small meditation hall and the small dinning hall have been renovated and
are being used for courses Two apartment buildings have been renovated and
furnished and are being used to house course participants and volunteers
Heating and plumbing have been restored in another apartment building with
42 rooms; sprinkler system and fire alarm system are being repaired now
Roads have been widened and culverts repaired to comply with the Fire Code
Office space and warehouse have been renovated Temporary repairs have been
done both on the large meditation hall and the large dinning hall to stop
further damage Design of parking lots and retaining wall are being completed
Partial listing of ongoing projects that require your support:
Renovation and furnishing of one sleeping room: $2,000 each (there are at
least 250 rooms to renovate) Construction of a parking facility: $350/spot
(we need at least 400 spots) Floor coverings for each class room: $6,000
(Four class rooms) Furnace/hot water heaters for buildings: $10,000 plus
$6,500 for installation (Need at least 14 sets for different buildings)
Large Meditation Hall $375,000 Large Dining Hall $345,000 Repair and
restoration of lodge buildings on Rock Cliff Road, there are 5 buildings:
$120,000 each building (total $600,000)
Sri Sri's vision is to make this ashram a beacon of knowledge and human
values. A place where people can come to find inner peace and joy. Come, let
