Art of Living student tops Sri Lanka`s best singing contest
Jaws dropped and heartbeats raced at the just concluded grand finale of the childrens` singing contest Shakthi Junior Superstar in Colombo. The glittering evening started off with the four finalists performing to different genres of music including classical, folk and hip-hop. While an estimated million people watched the event live on tv, Sri Lanka`s tamil population had its very first taste with a live music reality show.
As the children unleashed foot-stomping numbers and soothing classical tunes the clock was ticking away to the final moment of truth – the declaration of the Junior Superstar. The eminent panel of judges comprising the country`s leading singers and musicians found it really difficult to make a choice amongst the four finalists and so did the audience and voting public. Standing in the fourth place was Yathunandini who had to make an exit to continue the program for top three rankings.
The public voted their ranking of the singers by sms messaging just till about fifteen minutes before the Junior Superstar was announced. The master of ceremonies held the audience to the seats edge heightening the final suspense to a game played sportingly for six months with the participation of more than 1,500 children.
At the stroke of 8.30 pm, music reached its crescendo, colorful confetti and lighting burst onto the stage with Art of Living student Avinesh`s name declared as the Junior Superstar. The evening concluded with Avinesh`s expression of gratitude to his parents, teachers and the Art of Living.
The upcoming Mahashivratri festival to be celebrated at the Art of Living International Headquarters in Bengalooru ( Bangalore) is expected to see Avinesh present his classic style. Some of the finalists and semi-finalists are also likely to participate.
Leading musician Dr. Manikantanji to inspire Colombo singers :
The newly crowned Junior superstar Avinesh and all the finalists and semi-finalists will soon have a fantastic opportunity to interact with the Art of Living`s leading musician Dr. Manikantanji during his upcoming tour to Sri Lanka in mid- November. The formal launch of the Art of Living Sri Lanka`s Art - for - Children Project is also scheduled in this tour.
The project aims at inspiring and supporting children in the creative fields of music, art, poetry and design. As a first initiative under this project a 20 feet high colorful statue of Ganesha is being designed in the northern Sri Lankan town of Jaffna to inspire children and youth to think new, dream big and reach for the highest in life.

We are delighted to invite each of you to our next Marma therapy course, which will take place in Bad Antogast at the Sri Sri Ayurveda centre, from 7th December until 13th 2011.
The course will be led by Dr. Raturi Kumar Lokesh (B.A.M.S.), specialist in Naadi Pareeksha - the knowledge of ancient pulse diagnosis. This is a unique opportunity to learn Marma from such an experienced person. The training will include basic ancient knowledge about Marma therapy as well the basics of Ayurveda Knowledge.
What is Marma therapy?
Marma is a Sanskrit word meaning ' secret, hidden, vital.' On the surface of our body are sensitive points where energy or Prana is concentrated. Marma is the ancient technique of activating energy points on the physical level to energise and relax the whole system. By exerting gentle pressure on these Marma points, one can release the blocks and allow the Prana or life energy to flow to the connecting organs or tissues, thus giving them a new lease of life. Marma promotes a greater balance and integration of the body, mind and consciousness.
Prerequisites:
- Minimum of 2 Advanced courses or 1 advanced and 1DSN or 1 advanced course and any TTC.
-- recommendation from an Art of Living teacher who knows you.
- You must also carry out daily Sadhana practice.
Please note: you must have completed at least one course in presence of Guruji (Part II or III)
Dates:The training starts on 7th December with Satsang at 7.30 pm and will finish on 13th December by 4 pm.

Let go of thoughts
Streams of thoughts are always passing through your mind. But you may catch hold of the thoughts and not allow them to go easily, like a record needle getting stuck in one groove. Let the thoughts go. Feel that they are not yours. Sorrow comes from getting stuck in one thought or desire. Meditation happens when thoughts subside.
You meditate and calm your mind, then go on with other activities. It's not easy to keep yourself undisturbed, but it'll happen as you keep doing the practices regularly. Then it'll become easy. Let go of all effort - to stop thoughts, or to concentrate, or to contemplate.
Transcend your thoughts - with meditation Meditation is letting go of anger from the past, the events of the past and all the planning for the future. Meditation is accepting this moment and living every moment totally with depth.
Just this understanding and few days of continuous practice of meditation - can change the quality of your life.
The rest in meditation is deeper than the deepest sleep that you can ever have - because in meditation you transcend all thoughts/desires. This brings such coolness to the brain and it is like servicing or overhauling the whole body-mind complex.

Whenever charity is made on a condition there will always be dissatisfaction, because the condition cannot be fulfilled. Giving without a condition brings deep contentment and true freedom, because there is no reason to be dissatisfied ! This is the insight on which the Silent Charity initiative took shape.
This Christmas season, Silent Charity is a whole new attitude and awareness campaign to be launched by the Art of Living Foundation in Sri Lanka for people to look at a new attitude to giving in charity – to serve and give without expecting anything in return. Without any strings attached.
Volunteers at the Art of Living in Sri Lanka were inspired to launch the Silent Charity campaign in appreciation of His Holiness Sri Sri Ravi Shankar`s wisdom and initiatives of charity worldwide for over 30 years.
Whenever you give and you enjoy it, that very giving is simply an end unto itself. In effect this is the new attitude to charity that Art of Living Sri Lanka is set to promote and inculcate islandwide.
