"Anti-plastic Campaign" Launched at Dhapa, North Tangra -Kolkata
The Art of Living foundation in association with North Tangra Netaji Sangha
launched an "Anti-plastic campaign" in the capital city of Kolkata today.
Eighteen other clubs joined hands with Art of Living Foundation to make the
area clean and plastic-free. An anti-plastic awareness procession began from
Shaitala Mandir, besides Netaji Sangha Club premises. About 120 children
from the club played in the band and another 1000 children from various
local
schools marched in tandem to the awakening call of the band.
A sizable gathering of the Art of Living teachers and volunteers were
present and thronged the area with message of Clean n Green Kolkata and
"Anti- Plastic campaign", for effectively checking the use of disposable
plastic and
its littering around the area. A picture of Pujya Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, who
is
the guiding light and humanitarian leader of the Art of Living Foundation,
was adorned and reverence was offered by all present. His vision of a
violence-free, stress-free society through the reawakening of human values
has inspired millions to broaden their spheres of responsibility and work
towards the betterment of the world.
It all began with a Navchetna Shivir organized by Ms. Debarati, faculty of
art of living, and the message of self help and the need to keep the
surrounding clean was well understood by the locals. Around 200 people
attended the shivir. The Netaji Sangha took the endeavor ahead by calling
other clubs to join in. The Dhapa, north Tangra area, where over two lakh
people reside, took a wow to make this area a plastic free zone.
The local administration was also very receptive to the effort and adhered
to
be part of the drive. The Councilor of ward 58 Shri Shambhu Nath Kaw
marched
along with the procession urging and educating the people about the hazards
of using plastics.
The Bowbazar MLA Shri Swarno Komal Saha, emphasized on the benefits on being
plastic free. Ms. Sanchita Mondol, Mayor of Council- Environment brought up
the environmental hazards caused due to plastics.
Shri Debashish Kumar, Mayor of council - Park, called attention to the fact
that a sustained effort would be required by the locals and the authorities
together to keep the momentum going of the program taken up by Art of
Living.
The IC/OC of the Dhapa North Tangra area also attended the program and
assured of all assistance to take the cause ahead. Paper bags prepared by
children were distributed to the public during the procession.
Volunteers of Art of Living and Netaji Sangha in the procession walked along
to educate the people regarding the danger of using plastic. The use of
plastic has been causing extensive damage to the environment in and around
Kolkata.
Disposable polythene bags, plastic cups and plates etc have changed the
facade of the once beautiful grasslands and lakes; littered with disposal
plastic items everywhere. There were also instance where animals like
horses; cows die due to suffocation after eating plastic. In addition to
the damages to the flora and fauna, plastic have been a real menace and
responsible for blocking the drainages, water supply channel in the city.
Plastics have also been entering through the channels in the lakes, ponds
and the river Ganga, causing pollution.
Netaji Sangha and Art of Living Foundation have pioneered the "Anti Plastic
Drive" at Dhapa, north Tangra, however, soon more blocks and wards in and
around Kolkata; are going to join in for the cause.

High energy water fall drops atop a hill and takes each drop together
carving even a stone lying below, making everything in its way shine and
sparkle...!
2 weeks to a newer beginning, clean hearts, dazzling delhi...!
Its not what delhi can do for me, its what I can do that would make delhi
different...!
Temperature difference between water boiling and steam is only one degree.
And we all know what all that steam can do, boiling water cannot (eg it
cannot run a train engine). The last lap of any project, is toughest as well
easiest. It takes a perspective and attitude to see it that way. Whenever in
life things have turned seemingly tough, I always thank HIM, for it
indicates goal is around the corner. Usually best energy is needed in the
last round and with collaborative potential it can be achieved rather
easily, something that the nature of this beautiful project has inbuilt into
it as a hidden success seed.
We have sown it thus far, it has sprouted well, we will nurture it even more
now,
