There was a wonderful convention at Chennai where volunteers from Tamil Nadu almost 2700 gathered.Guruji was all smiles when he entered the hall and told he had cancelled his flight to be with us.
He asked all of us to turn back and face the wall instead of seeing him.Yes, all of us had to obey.There was no excuse.He was at the back to push us forward.
Never before One could have seen such a convention with so much dedication.
Guruji had one thing only to tell us. To come in large numbers ,ten times more next year.
One more news, Papanasam the small town in Tamil Nadu where Guruji was born will be the next venue.How happy one can be can be seen by the volunteers who came back home so fresh and satisfied.

Subject: The hidden power of our Art of Silence program
Dr.Arun Madhavan recently returned after conducting our Art of Silence program in a rural location. The course witnessed deep silence kept by the participants. Many of them had to retire to their homes to cook food and take care of their school- going children. Yet they were back to the venue for the morning yoga at the time announced, maintaining strict silence all through. On the final day, when the silence was broken, he saw one participant who looked very content and cheerful to continue with his silence. After the closing ceremonies, Arunji was heading for the airport when the phone rang. The caller introduced himself as the one who didn't break his silence at the course venue! He had a wish to come across to the airport to bid farewell but Arunji dissuaded him. Instead he asked him if there is a location en route the airport where he could wait and meet him.
Traffic was smooth all the way until Arunji's car reached a point where the traffic on the right side of the road was packed and stagnant, the left side was free. The host on the wheel saw an ambulance coming in front of him offering little maneuverability of space for the ambulance to pass through. He took the car over the pavement, only to to see the left wheel hanging into a 6 feet canal trench. Upon this sudden development they saw a familiar face rushing to the spot. He put his hand under the chassis to effortlessly lift the stuck vehicle weighing over one tonne and ease it on the road. He was none other than the participant who was waiting there to meet Arunji and his gesture was very timely and swift. After the pleasantries he asked a simple question- How did I do it?
Arunji's reply was "your deep silence and spontaneous stretching of your hand gave you this extraordinary energy. There is an aphorism in Sanskrit which affirms this " 'मौनं सर्वार्थ साधिके' maunam Sarvartha Satakam" In Bangalore they say in Kannada: 'summaniru manave, nee brahmanaguve' 'Remain quiet, O mind, you will become Brahman.'

Now keep everything aside and just look at your own life.
What is it that you want from your life?
Have you ever sat and thought about it, 'What do I want in my life?'
We seldom get time to do that. And, 'Who am I?' - That too we do not think
about.
Someone told us something and we learnt that. We have studied and gotten
educated, but 'Who am I? What do I want?' These questions seldom come to our
mind.
If you see your life of 60, 70 or 80 years, do you know how you spend those
80 years?
You spend 40 years of your life sleeping. You spend about eight years of
your life in bathrooms and toilets, and about the same numbers of years are
spent in eating.
10 to 15 years are spent in traffic, in making journeys, and in working.
Hardly two to three years of our life are spent in what we call a 'happy'
life. Is it not?
And is it not that which you want - Happiness?
Happiness is not a commodity that you can buy somewhere. It is present where
you are, right here and right now. And the way to find that happiness is
meditation.
Meditation improves our health, our state of mind and brings more happiness.
Whatever we are seeking here and there, is right here, within us.
Distractions are there to see how keen you are to catch the wisdom.
In Sanskrit there is a saying, 'Shreyansi Bahu Vighnani', which means, if
there is something very precious then there are many obstacles or
distractions that come with it (from the Uddhava Gita. This quote is part of
Lord Krishna's discourse to his devotee Uddhava).
If there are a lot of distractions that come for something, then it must be
very precious.
If you want to do something wrong, there will be no obstructions for that.
But if you want to do something good or pick up something precious, many
distractions may come.
The key to achieving greater happiness isn't very far. In fact, an Art of
Living Course instructor would tell you it is right under your nose.
Literally. It's all in something as simple as the breath.

THE MIND` campaign to prevent depression
A novel idea to de-stress!
While the T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka is gaining momentum by the day.
Nail-biting moments, betting, celebrations and endless drawing - room and
office discussions as to who will take the much coveted cup have become the
order of the day. When the cricket fever is keeping all the anxiety, stress
and tension tucked away for another day. October 10th 2012 will soon arrive
to announce that it's World Mental Health Day!
To mark this day, the Art of Living Foundation a registered charity in the
island-nation is scheduled to launch its new campaign to prevent depression.
Aptly titled `Stop the Mind`, this campaign will host a live event on
October 10th to deliver a new experience for students, youth, executives,
sportspersons and home makers.
The Sri Lankan Government`s Health Ministry states that around one percent
of the total population in the country suffer from serious depression and
another seven to 10 percent from minor depression. The Ministry spokesman
further states that depression is the second highest killer in the world and
is expected that it will reach the top by the year 2030. While untreated
depression can lead to suicide, the Ministry urges people to take measures
for prevention.
The Art of Living Foundation`s `Stop the Mind` campaign is aimed at
educating the public to prevent depression. In the heavy traffic of thoughts
on the highway called mind, stop the mind for a few minutes every day - this
is the credo and theme that the Art of Living youth and volunteers are to
showcase to the people on October 10th 2012.
This new campaign is inspired by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar the world renowned
spiritual leader and an ambassador of peace. The key insight for this
campaign is well articulated in Sri Sri`s interview by the famous television
host Dan Shilon.
The inspiring interview is available for viewing on the You Tube under the
title ` Sri Sri Ravi Shankar`s interview with Dan Shilon`. In the
thought-provoking interview Sri Sri says "Stop the mind. It`s racing. It is
always thinking of the past or anxious about the future. We are either angry
about the past or anxious about the future. Take a fresh look at the world,
the situation in front of you. You need to wake up and see. Let`s see what
we should do now and for the future. That gives you a lot of energy,
encouragement, enthusiasm and lifts you up".

What is it that you want from your life?
Have you ever sat and thought about it, 'What do I want in my life?'
We seldom get time to do that. And, 'Who am I?' - That too we do not think

educated, but 'Who am I? What do I want?' These questions seldom come to our

If you see your life of 60, 70 or 80 years, do you know how you spend those
80 years?
You spend 40 years of your life sleeping. You spend about eight years of
your life in bathrooms and toilets, and about the same numbers of years are
spent in eating.
10 to 15 years are spent in traffic, in making journeys, and in working.
Hardly two to three years of our life are spent in what we call a 'happy'
life. Is it not?
And is it not that which you want - Happiness?
Happiness is not a commodity that you can buy somewhere. It is present where
you are, right here and right now. And the way to find that happiness is
meditation.
Meditation improves our health, our state of mind and brings more happiness.
Whatever we are seeking here and there, is right here, within us.
Distractions are there to see how keen you are to catch the wisdom.
In Sanskrit there is a saying, 'Shreyansi Bahu Vighnani', which means, if
there is something very precious then there are many obstacles or
distractions that come with it (from the Uddhava Gita. This quote is part of
Lord Krishna's discourse to his devotee Uddhava).
If there are a lot of distractions that come for something, then it must be
very precious.
If you want to do something wrong, there will be no obstructions for that.
But if you want to do something good or pick up something precious, many
distractions may come.
The key to achieving greater happiness isn't very far. In fact, an Art of
Living Course instructor would tell you it is right under your nose.

Manasa Ganga Ashram is located at the outskirts of Hyderabad near Miyakhan
Gadda (after Khanapur Village). It is about 5 KMs from CBIT/Ocean Park

is about 20 KMs from Hyderabad International Airport from where cabs are
available (20 mts drive) - Taxi fare would be Rs.600/-. It is about 35 KMs
from Secunderabad Railway Station and 25 KMs from Hyderabad Railway Station.
Those who come by bus or train can come up to Mehadipatnam junction. From
Mehadipatnam catch City Bus No.220 (that goes to Jonnada/Shankarapalli
village) to get down at Miyakhan Gadda Village. One can request the
conductor to stop the bus in front of the Ashram Gate. From Miyakhan Gadda
stop walk ahead for about 300 mtrs on the main road and on the left side one
can easily find Ashram Entrance. Alternatively, catch bus or shared auto
from Mehadipatnam to Bapunagar (after Lungarhouse) and from there one can
reach Manasa Ganga Ashram by auto-rickshaw/shared mini-taxi - 15 KMs and 25
mts drive. The taxi fare from Secunderabad station may cost about Rs.700 to

The auto fare from Bapunagar to Miyakhan Gadda will cost Rs.150/- - 6
persons can easily come together in the auto from Bapunagar. For individual

Gadda (after Khanapur Village). It is about 5 KMs from CBIT/Ocean Park
Junction on the way to ICFAI University Campus / Shankarpalli Village. It
is about 20 KMs from Hyderabad International Airport from where cabs are
available (20 mts drive) - Taxi fare would be Rs.600/-. It is about 35 KMs
from Secunderabad Railway Station and 25 KMs from Hyderabad Railway Station.
Those who come by bus or train can come up to Mehadipatnam junction. From
Mehadipatnam catch City Bus No.220 (that goes to Jonnada/Shankarapalli
village) to get down at Miyakhan Gadda Village. One can request the
conductor to stop the bus in front of the Ashram Gate. From Miyakhan Gadda
stop walk ahead for about 300 mtrs on the main road and on the left side one
can easily find Ashram Entrance. Alternatively, catch bus or shared auto
from Mehadipatnam to Bapunagar (after Lungarhouse) and from there one can
reach Manasa Ganga Ashram by auto-rickshaw/shared mini-taxi - 15 KMs and 25
mts drive. The taxi fare from Secunderabad station may cost about Rs.700 to
Rs.800.
The auto fare from Bapunagar to Miyakhan Gadda will cost Rs.150/- - 6
persons can easily come together in the auto from Bapunagar. For individual
the charge is Rs.15/- to Rs.20/-.

The Schools' Project in Delhi & NCR
Working with the future of India
The journey started two and a half years ago with the Mega Painting
Competition that took place before the Clean Delhi Drive. The theme of the
competition was 'My clean Dilli Dream Dilli'. More than 2,000 schools
participated and 6,50,000 children painted the Delhi of their dreams. Word
spread through the participating children and within a few days the
competition became a topic of discussion in many households of Delhi.
The drawing competition was a beginning of sorts as it opened many doors.
This event was a pilot project which was subsequently replicated in other
countries. The competition was followed by the Clean Delhi Drive in which
450 schools participated and over 20,000 children worked tirelessly to
create awareness among more than 20,00,000 inhabitants of Delhi, inspiring
them to keep the city clean. The dedicated team of Art Excel and YES
teachers and volunteers that worked towards this, was by then known as the
Schools' Team; this team, through its cleanliness project in schools
educated over 1,00,000 students in keeping their city clean. After the Clean
Delhi Drive, schools in Delhi & NCR started showing a lot of interest in
associating themselves with Art of Living's projects. They appreciated the
work done by the Art of Living and the practical methods of instilling
values in children.
The Educators' Meet in November 2011 was yet another memorable event.
Principals of 800 schools in Delhi & NCR participated in this seminar to
interact with His Holiness Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and hear Him speak about
value education in schools. The schools were now ready to become actively
involved in various service initiatives and projects of the Art of Living.
Prestigious schools like Delhi Public School, Air Force School, Sanskriti
School, Springdales School and G.D.Goenka School expressed an interest in
the Art of Living's initiatives.
Since December 2011, Art excel and YES workshops have been conducted in many
schools, as a part of NOVICE (Nurturing of Values in Children Every day);
some of these schools are Uttam School, Salwan Girls' School, ITL Public
School, Delhi Public School, DAV School and Banasthali School. Apart from
this a stress free teaching workshop of one hour has been conducted in many
schools including Sachdeva Public School, Army Public School, Venkateshwara
School, Indraprastha School, Silverline School, Shanti Gyan School, Marigold
School, Greater Valley School, Apeejay School and St.Marks School; many
teachers have benefitted from this workshop.Through these initiatives, the
Schools' Team has created a relationship with approximately 1,000 public
schools and almost all schools under the government sector. More than 64,000
children from 150 schools of Delhi & NCR participated in Yogathon, despite
the day being a holiday.
The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) sanctioned a pilot project for 1,400
teachers and 3,000 students. In the 2nd phase 1,200 students and 200
teachers have already experienced the grace of the Master. This is a big
leap forward and has helped us to reach out to MCD Schools and Kendriya
Vidyalayas where talks are already in progress.
At present, approximately 200 volunteers of the Art of Living are involved
in the Schools' Project.
